Bangkok 06/10

He Said...

The storm abated during the night after a fantastic lightning show, our hotel, see yesterday, is the best one yet, Flashpackers are we
( apparently that's what you are when you back pack but not on a budget) although I prefer Executive Traveller.
We consulted our various travel bibles, rthe reception and made a plan to hit a local Market, then grab a sunset drink before finding the night Market in Patpong

As we wondered in the hu-hu-hu humidity we stumbled upon the Choa Phraya River, now this river was a flowing, it was going somewhere in a hurry and judging by the 7-8 row wall of sand bags it was full, in fact there was a section of road where the river had burst through and was flooding out into the street .
Apparently the floodwaters are yet to hit main Bangkok but they are releasing 10 million cubic metres per day from the upstream dam, which is due to arrive in the middle of next week, hopefully Bangkok will still be here when we get back.

The Kao San Market is tourist driven but has the best selection yet of tee shirts and the usual stuff, although they have adopted the same sizing policy as Zara. I was accosted by a burly Indian fortune teller who, after telling me how great life was going to be demanded 5,000 Baht, (US$160) I left him in his alley with the thought that if he was so good he should have known that I was a tight bastard, he wasn't so amused.

Lunch was the anticipated Pad Thai with a cold Singha beer after which Ais found a foot masseur and I opted for the " thousands of fish eating the dead skin off your feet" option which was the weirdest feeling ever.

Our sunset drink was in a skyscraper and downriver so we braved the river taxi, after a 100 metre wade along the flooded causeway, unfortunately I didn't notice the dress code which our shorts and floppies didn't meet, so we skipped the drink and headed to the Market.

As expected it was fake central- belts, watches, Ralph, Tommy and friends we found an appropriate t- shirt for Ais, checked out the scantily clad bar hostesses and called it a night choosing to dine in the hotel.
